Ørsted obtains regulatory approval for acquisition of Deepwater Wind (US)

Danish power company Ørsted has completed the acquisition of the US-based leading offshore wind power developer Deepwater Wind at a purchase price of US$510m. The company will be integrated into Ørsted's portfolio and will be renamed Ørsted US Offshore Wind. The transaction has been cleared by the US authorities and the required regulatory approvals have been obtained.

Deepwater Wind currently has a total potential capacity of 3,300 MW, entailing the only operational offshore wind park in the United States, the 30 MW Block Island facility on Block Island, Rhode Island, and three wind projects with pending finalization located in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maryland and New York totalling 810 MW of capacity. The remaining 2,500 MW are located across three BOEM lease areas in Massachusetts and Delaware; of these 2,500 MW, 1,200 MW is developed through an equal joint venture with New Jersey's leading utility Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG).

With the completion of this acquisition, Ørsted expects to be able to build more than 10 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
