Orsted (Danemark) announces 16% growth in power generation in 2019

The Danish energy group Ørsted has released its 2019 results, posting a 16% growth in its power generation to 20.1 TWh. Wind power generation rose by 46%, from 10.6 TWh in 2018 to 15.5 TWh in 2019, thanks to ramp-up of generation from new offshore wind parks and a full year with contribution (+2 TWh) and ramp-up of onshore wind plants (+2.9 TWh). The group's installed wind capacity rose by 1.4 GW during the year to 7.8 GW, following the commissioning of the 1,218 MW Hornsea-1 offshore wind project in the United Kingdom, the second phase of the Formosa-1 offshore wind project in Taiwan (128 MW) and the 148 MW Locket onshore wind project in the United States.

Ørsted also took final investment decision (FID) on several projects, including the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind project in Taiwan, the 338 MW Sage Draw, 230 MW Plum Creek and 103 MW Willow Creek onshore wind projects and the combined solar (420 MW) and storage (40 MW) Permian Energy Center project in the United States. In addition, the group was awarded two majors offshore wind projects in the United States, the 1,100 MW Ocean Wind project in New Jersey and the 880 MW Sunrise Wind project in New York, that will raise Ørsted's offshore wind capacity in the United States to 2.9 GW in 2024. Moreover, the group has secured up to 4.5 GW of lease rights for future offshore wind projects in the US.

In 2019, the group sold 14.7 TWh of power (-3.9%) and 127 TWh of gas (-5%).
