Orsted buys 50% stake in 2.5 GW Baltica-2-3 offshore wind projects (Poland)

The Polish energy group Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) and the Danish energy group Ørsted have closed the joint venture agreement signed in February 2021, under the terms of which the two companies would create a 50:50 joint venture to develop two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 2.5 GW in the Polish Baltic Sea. As part of the agreement, Ørsted acquired a 50% stake in the 1,498 MW Baltica 2 and 1,045 MW Baltica 3 offshore wind projects for a total consideration of PLN657m (€146m). The two projects, which are eligible to be included in Poland’s 2021 offshore wind allocation round, have already secured environmental permits and connection agreements and should be commissioned before 2030 (by 2026 for Baltica 3 and by 2030 for Baltica 2).

PGE aims to build 3 GW of solar capacity and 1 GW of onshore wind capacity by 2030 and to install at least 6.5 GW in offshore wind capacity by 2040 to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
