Ørsted and PGE reach FID on 1.5 GW Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm (Poland)

The Danish utility Ørsted and Poland’s energy company Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) have taken a final investment decision (FID) on the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 Offshore Wind project in Poland. The offshore wind project will be built, owned and operated in a 50/50 partnership between both companies, and it is planned to be located at approximately 40 km off the Polish coast near Ustka.  The Baltica 2 will comprise 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW-222 wind turbines and it expects to produce enough power to meet the needs of approximately 2.5 million Polish households once it becomes operational in 2027. The project has already obtained all relevant permits, has signed a grid connection contract with the Polish transmission system operator PSE and has secured contracts with all major component and vessel providers.

The Baltica 2 is being developed under a 25-year inflation-protected CfD with the Polish state, which starts after commissioning of the wind park. The nominal starting price per MWh will be determined based on the agreed 2021 price of €71.82 plus accumulated inflation from 2021 until the CfD starts. The price per MWh will be annually adjusted to inflation. After the CfD ends, Baltica 2 will receive the market price for electricity or enter new power purchase agreements.

According to Poland’s updated NECP, the country targets up to 5.9 GW of offshore wind in 2030, and up to 18 GW by 2040.
