The US District Court for the District of Columbia has temporarily blocked a government order that had halted the 924 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind project, allowing work on the project to restart, while the lawsuit over that order continues (Ørsted press release, 02/02/2026). Located 30 miles (48 km) off the coast of New York’s Montauk Point, Ørsted’s Sunrise Wind is expected to be operating in 2027.
Construction had been paused since the Trump administration issued a stop-work order in December 2025, halting progress on five offshore wind parks under construction (KEI, 31/12/2025). This is the last of the fifth project halted to be allowed to restart, following recent court decisions permitting Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia (2.6 GW), Ørsted’s Revolution Wind (700 MW), Equinor’s Empire Wind (810 MW) and Vineyard Wind (Avangrid/CIP, 806 MW) to resume construction (KEI, 29/01/2025).
