Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) has signed a cooperation agreement with the city of Włocławek (central Poland) for the development of an SMR project of up to six BWRX-300 units of 300 MW each, totalling 1.8 GW in the city (OSGE press release, 25/06/2026). Preparatory work is already underway through the dedicated project company BWRX-300 Włocławek sp. z o.o. Once operational, the Włocławek project is expected to support regional development, with energy-intensive projects such as data centres potentially built near the facility.
In August 2025, Orlen announced it planned to build Poland’s first SMR in Poland, aiming to install at least two SMRs with a combined capacity of 0.6 GW operational by 2035 (KEI, 29/08/2025). Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) is a 50-50 joint venture between state-owned Orlen and chemical company Synthos.
According to Poland’s NECP, the country aims for nuclear to have around 7.7 GW operational in 2040 and to represent around 19% of the power mix by then.
