ORLEN increases its production of natural gas by 10 bcm (Poland)

The Polish energy group ORLEN has completed the construction of a natural gas compressor station at the Kościan-Brońsko mine in the Wielkopolska region (western Poland). The compressor is expected to increase gas production from operational fields by an additional approximately 10 bcm. The Kościan and Brońsko natural gas deposits were discovered in 1995–1998, and natural gas production began in 2002, with reserves estimated at about 35 bcm. The project will allow the beginning of the next stage of the exploitation of the largest complex of natural gas deposits in the Polish Lowlands, and to extend the Kościan-Brońsko mine's operation by several years.

ORLEN is striving to increase domestic natural gas production by looking for new deposits while also intensifying production from existing deposits through the optimisation of existing production infrastructure.

In 2023, gas production in Poland dropped by 30% (-1.6 bcm) to 3.9 bcm, covering about 19% of the country’s needs.
