Oracle and PowerChina will develop a 1 GW solar plant in Pakistan

The UK renewable project developer Oracle Power has signed a cooperation agreement with China’s PowerChina International Group to develop a 1 GW solar power plant on the unused land of Oracle's Thar Block VI, in the Sindh Province of southern Pakistan. The solar PV project will be comprised of approximately 1.5 million panels and is expected to generate 1.7 TWh/year of electricity.

PowerChina will support Oracle in conducting a comprehensive feasibility study, including surveying, investigation and other study works, for the Thar Solar Project. Oracle will develop partnerships, arrange funding for the project and coordinate ongoing negotiations with the governments of Sindh, while PowerChina will coordinate work with the Chinese government and assist in arranging financing if required.

Thar Block VI, located in the Thar Desert, is owned by Oracle through its subsidiary Sindh Carbon Energy, which has a 30-year mining lease. Oracle is also developing the Green Hydrogen Project in the Sindh Province, about 250 km from Thar Block VI.
