ONEE (Morocco) fully commissions a 300 MW wind project

The Moroccan National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has fully commissioned the 300 MW Boujdour wind power plant near Boujdour. The wind park, which is owned by private investors (65%), including Nareva Holding, an Moroccan energy firm owned by the Al Mada holding company, and Enel Green Power (Italy) as well as ONEE (35%), will sell its output to ONEE under a power purchase agreement (PPA). Power generation is expected to reach 1.6 TWh/year. The project, which required a total investment of MAD3.9bn (US$400m), was developed the within the framework of private electricity production, after adjudication of a major international call for tenders for the 850 MW Integrated Wind Power Program.

Wind accounts for 12% of Moroccan power generation with nearly 1.5 GW operational in 2021, compared to 3% (and 286 MW) in 2010.
