ONE Nuclear Energy has secured site control to develop its 2.9 GW Project Cayman gas-fired power project coupled with a 700 MW/2.9 GWh BESS and a co-located data centre campus in Louisiana (United States) (ONE Nuclear press release, 31/08/2026). The company has signed a binding letter of intent (LOI) with a local landowner group for the project site, located near the RiverPlex MegaPark and northeast of SpaceX’s recently announced infrastructure expansion.
The project is expected to support growing electricity demand from industrial and technology developments in the region and complement Entergy’s planned expansion of regional transmission infrastructure. ONE Nuclear highlighted additional demand associated with SpaceX’s development and Hyundai’s planned USD5.8bn steel mill.
Community outreach for Project Cayman has started, with public information meetings with local authorities, government agencies and other stakeholders scheduled between September and December 2026. ONE Nuclear has not disclosed the project's investment cost, construction schedule or expected commissioning date.
According to Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data, the United States had a total installed capacity of almost 1,390 GW by the end of 2025, of which natural gas represented about 41%.
