OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure have started the construction phase of three wind projects in Romania, with a combined capacity of about 300 MW (OMV press release, 22/04/2026). The projects (the 50 MW Gura Văii, 100 MW Podu Turcului and the 155 MW Poiana) form part of OMV Petrom’s acquisition of 50% stake in four wind projects developed by RNV Infrastructure through Electrocentrale Borzești. They have all reached their respective final investment decision (FID) and hold the necessary permits for their development, with their start of operations being scheduled for the first half of 2027. The fourth project of the acquisition is the 657 MW Galați wind park, for which the FID is still pending.
According to an OMV Petrom Executive Board Member, the company aims to have more than 2.5 GW of installed capacity in renewable power projects for 2030, of which the company already has 70 MW in operation and over 1.1 GW under development (including 300 MW in wind).
At the end of 2024, Romania had a total installed capacity of nearly 22 GW, 74% of which was CO2-free (31% hydro, 21% solar, 14% wind, 6% nuclear, and 1% biomass) and 26% thermal (14% lignite, 6% gas, and 6% oil).
