OMV Petrom and Transgaz sign deal to transport Black Sea gas (Romania)

The Romanian gas producer OMV Petrom and Romania's national gas transport system operator Transgaz have signed a contract for the natural gas delivery from the Black Sea to the Romanian National Transport System (NTS), through the Tuzla entry/exit NTS point. The contract, which an estimated value of RON 1.4bn (€276m) based on the transport tariffs applicable at the current date, was concluded for the period September 2026 – September 2042. The project involves building the 308 km Tuzla-Podisor gas transmission pipeline to link the Black Sea available gas to the BRUA corridor, allowing gas to be sent through the already-existing interconnections.

In August 2022, OMV Petrom became the operator of the Neptun Deep block. The block covers an area of approximately 7,500 km2 in water depths ranging from 100 to 1,700 meters. In 2012, Domino-1, the first deepwater exploration well in the country, confirmed the existence of a natural gas reservoir. The final investment decision (FID) is still pending.
