Oman will start to process gas from Khazzan in September 2017

The Ministry of Oil and Gas of Oman expects gas production from the Khazzan onshore gas field to start in September 2017. The Khazzan tight gas project is operated by BP Oman, a subsidiary of BP (60% interest), while Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production holds a 40% stake. It is located 350 km south of Muscat (Oman).

Works on the project started in 2014. The first phase of the onshore Khazzan field development plan involves massive drilling with approximately 200 wells and the construction of a two-train central processing facility (500 bcf/d per train). The combined plateau production from the first and second stages is expected to reach 1 bcf/d (28 mcm/d or 200 Mboe/d), 25,000 bpd of gas condensate and eventually contribute roughly a third of Oman’s natural gas supply.

The project is expected to develop reserves amounting around 7 tcf (roughly 198 bcm) of gas.
