Oman has committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 33% by 2035 compared to 2024 level, under its Third Nationally Determined Contribution, or NDC 3.0, including 7% unconditionally, while a further 26% reduction depends on international finance, technology transfer and capacity-building support (Muscat Daily, 03/08/2026).
The plan includes expanding solar and wind power, boosting energy efficiency, promoting electric mobility and public transport, and increasing flare gas recovery and carbon sinks. It also supports the deployment of CCUS, hydrogen, biofuels, waste-to-energy projects and landfill methane recovery.
Previously, in its second updated NDC, Oman aimed to cut its emissions by 21% by 2030 compared to a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario. The country targets carbon neutrality by 2050.
