Oman plans 1.6 GW of solar and wind capacity to boost renewables

Oman is advancing its renewable energy ambitions by moving forward with the procurement of approximately 1.6 GW of solar and wind power projects (Solarquarter, 05/01/2026).

The current procurement pipeline includes the Al Kamil Phase I Solar IPP, targeting a capacity of 450–500 MW. In addition, plans for three wind parks in Mahoot, Duqm and Sadah, with a combined capacity of approximately 1.1 GW, are advancing. These projects are being managed by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP), Oman’s sole buyer of electricity and water.

Oman aims to achieve 30% of its power generation from renewables by 2030 (up from less than 1% in 2024), while gas currently accounts for 97% of electricity generation.
