Ocean Winds secures 1.5 GW floating offshore wind site in the UK

Ocean Winds (OW), the 50-50joint venture between EDPR and ENGIE, is set to be awarded the rights to a floating offshore wind site in the Celtic Sea, off the coast of England and Wales, by The Crown Estate (Ocean Winds press release, 19/11/2025).

The site is one of three offered in Offshore Wind Leasing Round 5, with the other two sites having been awarded in June 2025. The third site went through a direct award process led by The Crown Estate, with Ocean Winds ultimately selected as the successful bidder.

The project could be developed in phases, with a total installed capacity of up to 1.5 GW.

In June 2025, following the auction in which the third site was not initially assigned, the UK seabed manager stated it would ensure the delivery of the full potential capacity of up to 4.5 GW available through Round 5 by facilitating the deployment of a third site.

Ocean Winds and The Crown Estate will now work towards finalizing a lease agreement, which is expected to be concluded by 2026.
