Ocean Winds has been officially granted a feasibility licence by the Australian Federal Government for the development of Westward Wind, an offshore wind project with up to 1.2 GW capacity off Bunbury, Western Australia (Ocean Winds press release, 12/02/2026).
- Ocean Winds is a 50/50 joint venture between Portugal's EDP Renewables (EDPR) and France's ENGIE.
- This marks Ocean Winds' second offshore wind project in Australia, following High Sea Wind (1.3 GW expected capacity) in Gippsland.
Australia targets 82% renewable electricity by 2030 (from 42% in 2024), with no operational offshore wind capacity as of early 2026. According to our data, around 43 GW of offshore wind projects are currently in development or feasibility stages across Australia's six designated zones, which offer a theoretical potential of approximately 67 GW (Enerdata Global Energy Research)
