Ocean Winds advances 2 offshore wind projects totalling 2.9 GW in Scotland (UK)

The renewable developer Ocean Winds (OW, a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie) has submitted its first planning consent application to the Aberdeenshire Council for the development of the 2 GW Caledonia offshore wind project in Scotland (United Kingdom). The application is subsequent to the completion of the project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA). The Caledonia wind park will be Ocean Winds’ third development project in the Moray Firth.

In addition, Ocean Winds has announced the installation of the final turbine at its 882 MW Moray West offshore wind project, also located in the Moray Firth off Scotland, following the installation the 60th and final Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbine at the site (14.7 MW each). The wind park, which produced its first power in July 2024, will become fully operational in 2025. Ocean Winds’ other development in the Moray Firth is the 950 MW Moray East project, which was completed in 2021 and started full operations in 2022.

Scotland targets 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. At the national level, the United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (14.7 GW at the end of 2023).
