Ocean Winds achieves first power at the 496 MW EMYN wind project off France

Ocean Winds (OW, a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie) has achieved first power at the 496 MW Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier (EMYN) offshore wind project, located off the Vendée coast in western France. This announcement comes about a month after Ocean Winds announced the installation of the first wind turbine for the project. In total, 61 Siemens Gamesa turbines, with a capacity of 8 MW each, will be installed for the offshore wind project between May and September 2025. The wind park is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2025. OW had taken a final investment decision on the project in April 2023.

France's second NECP (2024) targets a share of 41.3% of renewables in final energy consumption in 2030. In 2030, the country's offshore wind capacity is expected to reach 3.6 GW. France aims to deploy 50 offshore wind parks totalling 40 GW by 2050.
