NYPA plans to install up to 5.5 GW of renewables generation and BESS (US)

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has announced plans to develop, own and operate 45 projects and 146 distributed BESS projects with a combined capacity of almost 5.5 GW in the US state of New York (NYPA press release, 12/09/2025). According to the NYPA’s Renewables Updated Strategic Plan, the power authority aims to develop these projects to meet demand increase in the state with affordable and clean power. Among the projects there are about 39 solar arrays, 3 wind projects and 149 BESS projects located in every region of the state.

The plan is subject to modifications, so projects may be added on, updated or eliminated according to the NYPA’s objectives.
