NTPC’s power generation rose by 10% in FY 2022 (India)

India’s largest state-owned thermal power group NTPC has released its 2022 results, posting significant increases in revenue, capacity and generation for FY 2021-2022  NTPC’s total revenue increased by 16% to INR120,042 crore (US$15.5bn). The NTPC group had 69 GW of installed capacity by the end of FY 2021-2022, a 4.8 % increase compared to the previous year (65.8 GW), accounting for nearly 17% of India’s installed capacity (2021).

The group generated a total of 299 TWh in FY 2021-2022 (+10%), i.e. about 17 % of the country’s power generation. NTPC’s power generation is dominated by coal, with imported coal rising by 168% to 2.5 Mt (only 1.3 % of NTPC’s supply in FY 2021-2022), and the company produced 13.6 Mt of coal during this fiscal year, a 44 % increase from last year (9.5 Mt). Coal supply has also increased by nearly 15% to 196 Mt in 2021-2022. On the contrary, NTPC’s gas consumption fell by 63% to 1.3 mcm/d.

Finally, the company’s average tariff increased by 5.6% in FY 2021-2022.
