The Indian power group NTPC has announced its plans to install two 700 MW nuclear units in Bihar's Banka district (Eastern India) for an overall investment of about INR250bn (USD3bn) (India Times, 26/04/2026). The units are expected to be built at 250 km from Patna, where the company is conducting a feasibility study for the development of a detailed project report (DPR). The construction of both units is part of the NTPC’s energy diversification plan.
According to the announcement, NTPC targets to own about 30 GW of new nuclear projects across India, in line with the country’s aim to achieve 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047. The company also announced that it is developing another nuclear project of about INR420bn (USD4.5bn) in partnership with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).
