NTPC plans a 755 MW floating solar PV project in Jharkhand (India)

NTPC Renewables, on behalf of Green Valley Renewable Energy, its joint venture (JV) with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has opened a tender for 220 kV transmission assets to evacuate the power generation of a 755 MW floating solar park to be developed at DVC's Tilaiya and Panchet reservoirs in Jharkhand in north-eastern India.

In November 2022, NTPC Renewable Energy launched bids for land and an extra high voltage (EHV) transmission system package to develop interstate transmission system-connected solar power projects for a capacity of 2 GW, in the state of Rajasthan (western India).

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
