India's largest thermal power generation company NTPC has invited bids for the development of a 250 MW solar PV project at the Kadapa Solar Park in Andhra Pradesh (India). The tender comes under the National Solar Mission (NSM) Phase II, Batch II, Tranch I and bids are expected by 7 December 2016.
In August 2015, NTPC announced plans to install up to 5,000 MW of new solar capacity in the next two years (i.e. by April 2017), as part of its strategy to install 15 GW of solar capacity over the next seven years, i.e. by 2022. In February 2015, the Union Cabinet approved NTPC's plans to install 5 GW of solar capacity in three tranches, with the first tranche of 3 GW "bundling" two units of solar with one unit of unallocated thermal power.
In addition, state-owned hydropower group National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has issued an EPC tender for a 50 MW grid-connected solar PV project in the Theni and Dindigul districts in Tamil Nadu. Bids must be submitted by 24 November 2016 and the project should be commissioned within nine months after the contract award. The company also plans to develop a 600 MW floating solar PV project at the Koyna hydroelectric project in the Satara district of Maharashtra.
