The Independent Planning Commission of New South Wales (Australia) has approved the 800 MW Dinawan solar project and its 356 MW/1,574 MWh BESS (Australian government press release, 02/04/2026). Located within the South West Renewable Energy Zone and the Murrumbidgee Local Government Area, the project is being developed by the Dinawan Energy Hub Trust, a wholly owned subsidiary of Spark Renewables. The AUD1.4bn (USD930m) Dinawan project is expected to improve grid stability and energy security, and it aligns with the region’s commitments to transition to renewable energy.
The project will consist of about 2 million solar PV panels, the battery units and up to 2 substations and switchyards. Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 142,000 homes.
Eventually, the project will also add 1.2 GW of wind capacity, although its application is being processed separately and it still awaits an answer from the corresponding authorities.
