The US power utility NRG Energy (United States) has entered into a definitive purchase agreement with Generation Bridge, an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners, to sell approximately 4,850 MW of thermal power generation assets from its East and West regions of operations for total consideration of US$760m. The group will also enter into a tolling agreement for its 866 MW Arthur Kill gas-fired power plant in New York City through April 2025. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, subject to various closing approvals. In addition, NRG Energy has just closed the acquisition of Direct Energy for US$3.6bn and the sale of its 35% stake in the Agua Caliente solar power plant to Clearway Energy for US$202m.
NRG Energy has around 23 GW of installed capacity, including 9.8 GW of gas, 7.9 GW of coal, 3.6 GW of oil, 1.1 GW of nuclear, and 0.3 GW of solar (2020).
