The second unit of the Novovoronezh-2 nuclear power plant (Novovoronezh II-2) in southwestern Russia is ready for commissioning after it completed 15-day comprehensive trials (commissioning tests). The 1,114 MW reactor started to supply electricity to the domestic power grid in early May 2019. Novovoronezh II-2 will be the third VVER-1200 to be commissioned in Russia, following Novovoronezh II-1 and Leningrad II-1, which were brought online in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
The Novovoronezh II nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Don River, in the Voronezh Oblast of Russia, on the site of the existing Novovoronezh nuclear power plant. The expansion project includes two 1,114 MW AES-2006 pressurized water reactors of the VVER type, with the first one put into commercial operation in February 2017. Two 1,200 MW other reactors are under consideration.
