Novatek's Yamal LNG export project ramps up to full capacity (Russia)

According to the Russian independent gas producer Novatek, its joint venture (JV) Yamal LNG has reached full capacity at the plant’s three LNG liquefaction trains. The three 5.5 Mt/year liquefaction trains of the Yamal LNG project are now operational with a total combined nameplate capacity of 16.5 Mt/year.

The first unit was commissioned in December 2017, the second one in August 2018 and the third one in November 2018. The second and third trains were launched ahead of schedule by six months and more than a year, respectively. Since the project's first shipment, more than 7.5 Mt of LNG have been produced and exported.

Yamal LNG's shareholders are Novatek with 50.1%, Total with 20%, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with 20% and the Silk Road Fund with 9.9%. Novatek aims to use the conventional natural gas resources on the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas and produce 55 Mt/year - 60 Mt/year of LNG by 2030.
