The Russian gas company Novatek has announced the discovery of a new natural gas field on the Gydan peninsula in Russia’s Arctic, which was named “Viktor Girya field” and holds estimated recoverable reserves of 52 bcm of natural gas and 2 Mt of liquids. Novatek’s unit Arctic LNG 1 has completed testing of the first prospecting well within the Bukharinskiy license area, adjacent to the company’s Trekhbugorniy license area on the Gydan peninsula.
Novatek is currently building the Arctic LNG 1 and Arctic LNG 2 terminals in Siberia, which both include the construction of three LNG trains with a capacity of 6.6 Mt/year of LNG each. The company produced 80 bcm of natural gas and 12.3 Mt of liquids in 2021 (+2.9% compared to 2020).
Russia has proved natural gas reserves surpassing 47,800 bcm, and the country produced 791 bcm of gas in 2021 (+9.5% compared to 2020).
