The Government of Nova Scotia (Canada) has issued environmental approval for the 1,264 MW Ocean Lake Wind Project, paving the way for what is set to become the largest wind park ever approved in the Canadian province, according to a statement (Nova Scotia government press release, 02/07/2026).
Once in operation, the project will have a generating capacity of 1,264 MW. “It will also reduce Nova Scotia's annual greenhouse gas emissions by about 1.94 million tonnes, the equivalent of taking about 420,000 gas-powered cars off the road,” the statement said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2029 and is expected to take approximately five years to complete (commissioning in 2034).
The wind park will be located in Guysborough County, close to the communities of New Harbour, Goldboro, Larry’s River, Lundy and Roachvale. The project is being developed by EverWind NS Holdings, in partnership with Membertou Development Corp, a company of the Membertou First Nation.
