Norwegian oil firms plan to cut GHG emissions by 2.5 Mt in 2020-2030

Companies of the Norwegian Oil Industry Association have released their common roadmap, according to which they plan to maintain profitable and secure production at current levels until 2030 and to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2.5 MtCO2eq between 2020 and 2030.

National oil and gas producer Statoil should account for 2 MtCO2eq of this reduction. The company had previously set itself the goal of cutting annual CO2 emissions from the Norwegian continental shelf by 1.2 Mt by 2020 compared with 2008. Overall, the Norwegian oil industry already has undertaken to implement CO2 reduction measures equivalent to 1.4 Mt/year by 2020.

In addition, maritime activities on the Norwegian shelf shall be carried out with low or zero emissions technology from the offshore fleet by 2030. By 2050, the oil industry aims to increase the average recovery rate of at least 60% and to significantly reduce the average CO2 emissions per unit produced compared to 2030 levels.
