Norwegian court delays Statnett's Oerskog-Sogndal transmission line

A Norwegian court has revoked the construction permit for the 420 kV Oerskog-Sogndal power transmission line in central Norway due to wrong informations on the line route and a Statnett's right to access properties was invalid. The project developer, national transmission network operator Statnett, is considering appealing the court's decision. The 297 km line, already under construction, was expected to be commissioned in 2016, to supply power to the Nyhamna gas processing plant in the Moere region; Nyhamna's power consumption is estimated to rise by about 120 MW in the fourth quarter of 2016. Statnett announced that this decision will delay the commissioning of the line to 2017. It is likely to result in insufficient electricity supply and will drive up prices in central Norway from late 2016. Statnett also highlights that power supply to the Norsk Hydro aluminium smelter could be restricted to avoid blackouts, if the construction of the line is further delayed (until late 2017).
