Norway's Deep Wind will build 2.4 GW of offshore wind capacity in Chile

The Norwegian developer Deep Wind Offshore has announced plans to develop two offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 2.4 GW off the coast of Chile. The company has applied for area leases for one floating and one bottom-fixed project, adding that it expects to let the projects to be managed and operated locally, in the Biobío region (Central Chile).

Deep Wind Offshore is committed to contribute with offshore wind in GW scale after two years exploring the Latin American offshore wind market. At the end of 2023, Chile had a total installed capacity of 38 GW of which wind onshore represented 12% (with no offshore wind capacity).
