Norway plans to raise its gas production and transmission capacity

Norwegian gas system operator Gassco plans to develop its gas transmission capacity, as Norway aims to increase its gas production.

Oil and gas producer Statoil has just been allowed to raise gas production from the Troll field to 33 bcm/year as of 1 October 2016; Troll, the largest gas field in Norway, accounts for around 30% of total gas output on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS).

Gassco plans to raise the process capacity of its Kaarstoe gas plant by 5 mcm/d to 93.7 mcm/d (+6.5%) as of 1 October 2016, and to expand the transmission capacity from the Kvitebjoern field to the Kollsnes gas processing plant by 9.5 mcm/d from late 2016.

State-owned Gassco operates the gas transmission network (8 000 km) from the NCS to Europe, on the behalf of Gassled, a joint venture mainly composed of Petoro (45.8%) and Solveig Gas Norway (24.8%). In 2015, Norway exported a record of 108.4 bcm of gas to Europe through its gas pipe system (+7.2.% on 2014).
