Norway plans to export 122 bcm of natural gas in 2023, in line with 2022

The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has announced that Norway plans to export around 122 bcm of natural gas in 2023, in line with exported levels in 2022, and to maintain this volume over the next four or five years. The official gas export level for 2022, which has not yet been released, is estimated to be 8% higher than in 2021 (113 bcm), and similar to the record high of 122 bcm exported in 2017.

Due to the decrease in Russian gas supplies, Norway has become the top supplier for most of Europe. The country primarily exports its gas through pipes to receiving terminals in the UK, Germany, France and Belgium. In September 2022, Norway and Poland also inaugurated the new 10 bcm/year Baltic pipe gas pipeline. The Nordic country also shipped more LNG this year from its Arctic Hammerfest liquefaction plant, which restarted operations in May 2022 after having been offline since 2020.

In 2021, Norway produced 119 bcm of natural gas. As of the same year, the country had proved gas reserves reaching 2,095 bcm.
