Norway authorised new 3,700 MW of wind power

Oil and Energy Ministry of Norway announced it has given permission to build 8 new wind park totalling up to 450 wind mills near the Trondheims Fjord. There are consented to around 1,300 MW of wind power, which should annually generate around 3.7 TWh of renewable electricity, corresponding to the annual consumption of about 185 000 households. The total investment will be around NOK20bn (€2.5bn).

SAE Vind DA (62% Statkraft and 38% Agder Energi) has been granted of four authorisations for a total of 660 MW. The wind parks will be build in Storheia (220 MW), Kvenndalsfjellet (120 MW), Fosen Svarthammaren (150 MW) and Geitfjellet (170 MW). Sarepta Energi AS (50% NTE and 50% TrønderEnergiand) received wind park authorisations in Roan (300 MW), Sørmarkfjellet (150 MW) and Froya (60 MW), while Zephyr AS (DONG Energy, EB Kraftproduksjon AS, Østfold Energi, AS, Vardar AS) obtained the Remmafjellet project approved (150 MW).

These project has been made possible by the Government authorisation issued to Statnett to build a 420kV transmission line. The project, which consists of a 250 km-long power line and a submarine cable 8 km-long long, will link the powerstation of Trondheim to the new powerstation of Namsos that will have to be build. The new line will also allow the Hitra 2 project (SAE Vind DA, 75 MW) to progress towards construction.

Companies are expected to make the final investment decisions in 2015, while the first wind turbines should be commissioned in 2018.
