Northland Power has entered into a long-term corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan (Northland Power press release, 30/04/2026).
- The Hai Long Project is being developed by Northland (30.6%) in partnership with Mitsui (40%) and Gentari International Renewables (29.4%).
- Situated approximately 45–70 kilometers off the coast of Changhua in the Taiwan Strait, the project comprises three offshore wind parks: Hai Long 2A (294 MW), Hai Long 2B (224 MW), and Hai Long 3 (504 MW), reaching a total gross capacity of 1 GW, according to the company’s press release.
Under this 30-year agreement, TSMC will purchase 100% of the project’s power generation. The project is anticipated to become fully operational in 2027.
Taiwan plans to tender 15 GW of offshore wind capacity between 2026 and 2035, averaging 1.5 GW per year. By the end of 2024, the country’s offshore wind capacity stood at 2.5 GW, representing around 4% of its total installed capacity (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
