North Macedonia and Serbia agree to speed-up gas interconnector (1.5 bcm/year)

North Macedonia and Serbia have agreed to accelerate the development of a gas interconnector with a 1.5 bcm/year of capacity between both countries (Telegrafi, 13/12/2025). The interconnector is expected to obtain the construction permit in mid-2026, with works scheduled to start shortly after aiming to be completed by the end of 2027 with first gas expected to flow in 2028. The €153m project plans to connect Klečovce (North Macedonia) to Vranje (Serbia) through 144 km of pipeline.

The interconnector is described as having a significant “strategic importance for regional connectivity and long-term energy security” since it is also expected to be technically ready to transport hydrogen
