North Carolina regulator approves SCANA-Dominion Energy merger (US)

The North Carolina Utilities Commission (United States) has approved the takeover of SCANA by the US energy utility Dominion Energy, the sixth of the seven required approvals to close the acquisition. So far, the transaction has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Georgia Public Service Commission, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, SCANA shareholders and only remains contingent upon clearance from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina, whose decision is expected by the end of December 2018.

If the proposed combination is completed, SCANA will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dominion Energy. The combined company will carry out operations in 18 states from Connecticut to California. It will have an installed power capacity of 33,000 MW and will operate 93,600 miles (150 600 km) of power transmission and distribution lines along with 106,400 miles (171,200 km) of gas pipelines and 1 Tcf (28 bcm) of gas storage capacity. Besides, the new company will also deliver energy to approximately 6.5 million regulated customer accounts in eight US states.
