According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (“North America’s LNG export capacity could more than double by 2029", 16/10/2025), North America’s LNG export capacity could experience substantial growth by the end of the decade. LNG exporters in the United States have announced plans to more than double the country’s liquefaction capacity, adding an estimated 13.9 Bcf/d, equivalent to approximately 144 bcm/year or 106 Mt/year, between 2025 and 2029.
More broadly, North America’s total LNG export capacity is expected to grow from 11.4 Bcf/d (around 87 Mt/year) at the beginning of 2024 to 28.7 Bcf/d (approximately 219 Mt/year) by 2029, assuming projects currently under construction come online as scheduled. Over the same period, exporters in Canada and Mexico have announced plans to add 2.5 Bcf/d (19 Mt/year) and 0.6 Bcf/d (4.6 Mt/year) of capacity, respectively.
