Norfund invests USD100m for 2 GW of new renewables in India by 2028

The Climate Investment Fund, managed by the Norwegian development finance institution Norfund, has agreed to invest up to USD100m in the Indian renewable energy company AMPIN EnergyTransition (Norfund press release, 21/09/2026).

The USD100m equity investment is expected to support around 2 GW of new solar, wind and hybrid power projects combined with battery storage by 2028. It also supports AMPIN’s solar manufacturing activities and expansion across India’s commercial, industrial and utility-scale electricity markets. The resulting projects are estimated to avoid around 3.1 MtCO₂eq/year once operational.

AMPIN operates 2.5 GW of renewable capacity from a 6.3 GW renewable portfolio, alongside 5.5 GWh of storage. The company also has manufacturing capacity of 1.3 GW for solar cells and 1.9 GW for modules. AMPIN operates across 23 Indian states and union territories and targets 10 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030.

As of 2025, India had a renewable capacity of 246 GW, representing around 42% of its total installed capacity (Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data).
