Acciona Energia (a company dedicated to providing solutions based on renewable energy; the company is a subsidiary of the Spanish Acciona) has selected the Nordex Group to supply 49 N155/5.X turbines for the “Forty Mile” wind project in Alberta, Canada. The project, which has a total capacity of 280 MW, equipped with cold-weather turbines rated at 5.7 MW, should be opperational by 2025.
Canada has an electricity capacity of 153 GW (end of 2022), which is dominated by hydroelectricity, with 83 GW. The other sources are gas (17 GW), wind (15 GW), nuclear (14 GW), coal (9 GW), oil (6 GW), solar (5 GW), and biomass (3.7 GW). More than ¾ of this capacity is CO2-free.
The country updated its NDC in 2021 with a more ambitious goal of reducing GHG emissions to 40 to 45% of 2005 levels by 2030. The country is also committed to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050
