NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), a major Indian public sector company, has announced an ambitious capital expenditure plan of INR1,250bn (approximately US$15bn) to be implemented by 2030. The initiative aims to expand the company’s total power generation capacity from 6.7 GW to 20 GW over the next five years.

The company plans to allocate around INR 65,000 crore (US$7.6bn) to renewable energy and green technology projects, including INR 15,000 crore (US$1.75bn) specifically for battery energy storage systems (BESS). Meanwhile, INR 45,000 crore (US$5.2bn) is earmarked for thermal power developments. An additional INR 15,000 crore (US$1.75bn) will support mining operations, which are part of the company’s integrated energy production model.

India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2070.
