The Filipino Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is currently holding a virtual hearing on a proposed 250 MW floating solar project, developed by NKS Solar One, the Filipino joint venture between NKS Energy Utilities and Blueleaf Energy Philippines. The 250 MW project is expected to be developed in two phases, with the first one of 162 MW floating solar array in Lake Caliraya and the second phases consisting of 88 MW floating solar arrays in Lake Lumot (North Philippines). If approved, it would be connected to the Luzon Grid via direct connection to the substation of the National Grid Corporation (NGCP): the Caliraya site would connect to the 230 kV Lumban Substation, while the Lumot site would connect to the NKS Caliraya Substation. The project is scheduled to start construction by the end of 2024, with completion expected by January 2026 and operations beginning shortly after.
At the end of 2023, the Philippines had a total installed capacity of 28 GW, of which solar represented a little more than 5% (1.6 GW).
