NGCP will build a 500 kV power network in Western Luzon (Philippines)

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) plans to invest PHP 17.9bn (nearly US$350m) in the development of a 500 KV transmission network in Western Luzon (Philippines). Investments include PHP 10.28bn (US$200m) in the 500 kV Mariveles-Hermosa and San Jose transmission lines, PHP 5.94bn (US$115m) in the 69 kV Hermosa - Floridablanca project, and PHP 1.34bn (US$26m) in the first phase of the 500 kV Castillejos-Hermosa transmission line expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of 2020. The second phase of the project would consist of a 550 kV line between the new Castillejos and Bolo substations, expected in 2025.

NGCP aims to develop the power network around the proposed 600 MW coal-fired power project developed by Redondo Peninsula Energy at the Subic freeport zone in Zambales. The 500 kV Mariveles-Hermosa line will connect around 2,840 MW of power plants operated by GN Power, SMC Consolidated Power and Kepco.
