The US energy company New Fortress Energy (NFE) has announced the expected early arrival of its first floating LNG to its 1.4 Mt/year Fast LNG installation located off the coast of Tamaulipas, in eastern Mexico. With the work required to begin commercial operations complete, the company expects to produce LNG during the rest of June to deliver its first cargo in July 2024. The project was developed in partnership with the CFE, Mexico’s state-owned electric utility, and it aims to expand the natural gas supply to the Mexican state of Baja California Sur through the deployment of Fast LNG liquefaction infrastructure. The FLNG1 will liquefy gas supplied by the Sur de Texas-Tuxpan pipeline, a subsea pipeline about 2 km away from the rig, where the company has secured the authorisation from Mexico’s Ministry of Energy (SENER) to export up to 7.8 Mt through April 2028.
New Fortress Energy is a global energy infrastructure company that owns and operates natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure as well as an integrated fleet of ships and logistics assets.
