The US energy company NextEra Energy has signed an agreement worth US$805m to acquire about 1.1 GW of wind and solar assets in the US states of Texas, Oklahoma, New York, Iowa, Nevada and Nebraska. The company will take a 49% stake in Emerald Breeze, a portfolio holding company that possesses around 1.5 GW of solar and wind assets across the United States.
In addition, NextEra Energy will take a separate, 100% indirect membership interest in three wind generation facilities totalling 345 MW. The deal will be finalised before the end of 2022 and the generation facilities are expected to start operations by the end of the third quarter of 2023.
In 2021, NextEra announced plans to add 22.7 to 30 GW of new renewable and storage capacity by 2024, including 11.8 to 14.4 GW of solar projects, 5.95 to 7.9 GW of wind projects, 4.35 to 6.3 GW of storage capacity and 575 MW to 1.4 GW of wind repowering.
