The nuclear project developer Newcleo has signed two framework agreements with the Slovakian nuclear companies JAVYS and VUJE for the development of its Lead-Cooled Fast Reactor (LFR) advanced modular technology. The agreement made with the nuclear engineering company VUJE establishes the framework for technical and commercial cooperation to support Newcleo’s development and implementation of LFR technology primarily in Slovakia.
The second agreement with the state-owned spent nuclear fuel management company JAVYS sets the conditions for establishing a joint venture (51% JAVYS and 49% Newcleo), named the “Centre for Development of Spent Nuclear Fuel Utilisation” (“CVP” in Slovak). The JV would develop and build an Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) based power plant of up to four LFR-AS-200 reactors at the Jaslovske Bohunice V1 site in Slovakia, and would also develop a nuclear fuel supply route to reprocess and use the Slovak spent nuclear fuels for long term multi-recycling as part of a closed fuel cycle.
Newcleo also aims to involve VUJE in the initial feasibility study work and subsequent activities carried out by CVP.
