New South Wales (Australia) clears the 75 MW/150 MWh Hume North BESS project

BESS projects have announced their progress in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW). The 75 MW/150 MWh Hume North BESS near Lake Hume Village at Albury has been approved by the NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC). The project had been submitted by Foresight Australia and is set to be equipped with containerised lithium-ion batteries at the vicinity of a wastewater treatment plant. The project should have the capacity to cover the consumption of almost 30,000 homes during peak demand once it reaches commercial operations in the first quarter of 2027

Additionally, the 500 MW/1000 MWh Pinecrest BESS project being developed by Pinecrest Developments at Lithgow has been submitted for environmental assessment under Australia’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act (Australian government press release, 10/04/2026). The project consists of enclosed batteries and of the installation of a transmission line to connect the project to the grid.
