New South Wales (Australia) awards contracts for 12 GWh of storage capacity

The government of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia has awarded contracts for six new long‑duration battery projects as part of the Renewable Energy Rollout tender run by ASL. The projects, which are expected to add nearly 12 GWh of storage capacity by 2030, contributing to strengthening the state’s electricity grid, are the following:

  • Neoen Australia's Great Western Battery in Wallerawang, storing 3,500 MWh;
  • BW ESS's Bannaby BESS in the Southern Tablelands, storing 2,676 MWh;
  • Ark Energy's Bowmans Creek BESS, in the Upper Hunter, storing 2,414 MWh;
  • FRV Services Australia's Armidale East BESS, storing 1,440 MWh;
  • Iberdrola's Kingswood BESS near Tamworth, storing 1,080 MWh, and;
  • Bridge Energy's Ebor BESS near Armidale, storing 870 MWh

In addition, Octopus Australia has announced the acquisition of two large storage projects in Australia, namely the 1.2 GW/4.8 GWh Hanworth Battery project near Bannaby (NSW) that it acquired from Australian energy developer Enervest, and the solar-battery project at Dunmore in Queensland that will combine a 300 MW solar park with a 150 MW/300 MWh battery system that it acquired from Samsung C&T Renewable Energy Australia (SREA).
